Back seat: going from solid to split?

My truck came with the solid, one-piece cloth back seat. I'd like to switch to the split back seat so I can install a tool box in one side, but still allow a passenger to use the other side.



Question is... if I find one for sale or in a junkyard, do I just need to change the lower portion of the seat? Is the back part the same for either style?

Sorry, I don't know the answer but heck, I didn't even know they came as a one-piece!

This is a good question. The part numbers for the two seat styles are not the same, nor are the lower seat hinges.

However, we should expect part numbers to differ and that doesn't mean they don't physically interchange.

Obviously, you'll need to retrieve all the hardware associated with the split lower seats, including the inboard hinges. But I'm guessing the seat backs will be compatible. Only a guess - I can't say for certain.

The service manual does not list different back sections, it does show the seat comes out as a unit but then can be separated
