Well I looked at the archive, it has been 7 years since selling the 1992 W 250.
I just bought a 2018 3500 dually 4x4 with the Aisin transmission and 3.73 gears. Wow is this new to me 2018 a nice truck. This new one has 25,000 miles and comes with a factory pre-owned powertrain warranty extending the 5 year to 7 years ending at 100k.
Here is the question; Of course the dealer is offering a third party warranty ( bumper to bumper ) 4 years from my purchase date ending at 100k, zero deductable, cost is $ 2000 dollars. What are your thoughts ?

I did call and get pricing comparisons from Endurance, Car Shield, and Car Chex.
Generally, I am not one to suggest extended warranties, but I would like to hear your thoughts.
Thanks

You have a great truck.

I have them on my vehicles. I went with Maxcare on my Ram and the factory one on my Suburban.

Probably $2500 each. 7yr 125k.

I would really read the fine print if they give you the actual fine print. Then compare apples to apples.

Both my dealers let me fully walk away with no warranty no pressure, just took the paperwork went home did some comparison and went back later and wound up buying from them each time, they were very close to the online places, you can easily add from basically any dealer.

Enjoy your new to you truck.

Congrats on buying a Ram Cummins truck. $2000 is not much for piece of mind. I'm not an extended warranty person either, but purchased lifetime no mileage limit Maxcare on my wife's 2019 1500 Laramie Longhorn and on the 2020 Motorhome we recently purchased.

I've owned 6 Ram Cummins trucks that never had any significant problems under the time limit/mileage limit of an extended warranty, but I've read where folks have easily had their extended warranties pay for themselves.

Anyhoo, for that deal, I'd go for it if it compares equally with Maxcare.

Welcome Back and hope new to you ride gives you many happy trouble free miles, Ron

I also did a FCA warranty on my first RAM,.. Paid for itself when the turbo and seat assy were replaced. I bought the MaxCare 8y/125K for my 2020 and hope I never need it but if I do its there... I don't generally buy warranties on most things but on these trucks a headlight or computer can be over 1K in parts alone so for me its 8y of piece of mind.... Not too worried about the Cummins engine or AISIN trans.. its all the rest of it.:rolleyes:... I'm sure you will get lots of opinions on both sides, but those who've used it are thankful they had extended coverage. And as was mentioned, you can buy the warranty anytime, just goes up in cost as mileage / age increases. I shopped around (Chrysler Warranties , COM... etc) at the end of it, my dealer matched the lowest bid I found and I did it all with them.

Welcome back...

Welcome back. I bought basically the same truck as yours just with 4:10 gears. Love it. I will be looking into one of the extended warranties also.

Do yourself a favor and only look at FCA warranties. The aftermarket service contracts are lots of profit for the dealer and many times they will not cover things that should be covered. You need to really look at the fine print before considering aftermarket.

We came to our 2018 ctd from a 2015 eco diesel that had the 8 year max care. It more than saved us triple what we paid.
Needless to say this one had to have max care or no deal. We have 8 yr 125k. I looked at independent policies and they were weak in emission coverage. Congratulations on the 18. They are old school compared to the new ones, a bit noisy and a tad smaller cab But it pulls out toy hauler perfectly! Enjoy..

I would only look at the FCA Maxcare as well, but based on my shopping experience with my 2018 I think you will find them prohibitively expensive. My last quote was well north of 4K so I decided to not get one.
