Back Up lights and trans position

My back up lights stopped working the other day. Checked the fuse. . ok. Probably not both bulbs at the same time... I had someone watch while I moved the trans lever up and down (auto). Sure enough, the lights come on when the lever is between Park and Reverse. Is this a common problem? How do I fix it? Is there a TSB? (I couldn't find one on Dave Fritz's site). And if anyone has fixed it does it stay fixed or is it one of those things that keeps going out of adjustment?

The switch is screwed into the side of the transmission just behind the shifter lever. Your problem is probably a linkage adjustment rather than the switch. bg
