When I put the transmission (auto)into reverse the back up lights flicker on then go off. Is there an adjustment that will fix this issue? Thank you in advance. John

Don't think there is an adjustment as this is same switch for neutral and park positions. Could be slack in the linkage or bad switch. bg

No adjustment. Its just the reverse light switch not making contact. Mine has been acting up for years but I'm too lazy to do anything about it. Cant really see anything behind me on those dark nights either so I guess I need to pick one up. I understand NAPA has them and its only a two prong switch.

The switch is located on the drivers side of the transmission up on the shift tower. From under the truck, look up and you'll see some wires going to a connector. Pull the connector off and use a 7/8 deep socket. Its easy to remove but you'll definitely want to make sure there isnt gobs of crud collected up there before pulling the switch off and allowing dirt inside.

Check the switches continuity first with a test light and the car battery. If its bad then it wont work when you press on the ball. If its just dirty then work the ball for a minute and it will likely work great.

Reinstall but just remember that its small threads so dont go wild on the socket wrench.

As KATOOM said, work the ball around. My switch wasn't working, I replaced it with a NAPA ($65.00). I squirted contact cleaner into the old switch and worked the ball around. I now have a spare switch after the expensive replacement.
