Backup switch for NV4500. It is located on the drivers side of your 5spd. Should be a two wire plug with a hot wire from fuse and a wire going to your bulbs and trailer harness. You can shift into REVERSE and check the switch for continuity. You can also short out the two female pins in the connector with the key in RUN to check the lights. If your fuse is blown, remember to check your trailer wiring if you have it. And could be something as simple as a blown fuse so check easiest/cheapest first

Thank you! I'll check this asap!

If you find that the switch is not working, depress the ball in the end of the switch, squirt some contact cleaner into the switch body, then rotate the end of the switch several times. Give it a good cleaning with contact cleaner. It may work again. Mine did. At the time, NAPA wanted $65.00 for the switch.

My back up lights started acting up years ago. I took out the switch and cleaned it up and assured that it was working. Put it back and they still didnt work. Got bored and havent bothered to mess with it again. That was a couple years ago...

The BU lights on my 99 had stopped working for a couple of years. I put a new clutch in it before I sold it and figured it was a good time to fix the lighting problem. I could get continuity when the switch was out of the transmission, but not with it installed in the transmission. A new switch solved it.

Do you remember what fuse controls the reverse lights?

Okay...I found the switch and shorted across the two pins and the backup lights came on. Next I pulled the switch out and put a ohm meter across the two pins and pressed on the ball and the meter showed a short, let go of the ball and the meter showed open circuit. Put it all back together and still no backup lights. Is there something in the transmission that presses on the ball that I can replace without pulling the transmission?

Anyone have a part number for the switch?
I see them priced between $12 and $50 which makes me believe they're not the same part.

Thanks to everyone that responded to my question. After checking everything and it all seemed to be working I did what "KATOOM" did and purchased a switch from Transmission Parts Distributors and it arrived today. Installed and now I have backup lights!!!
