Back Up Lights

I had a 5 amp fuse F-7 Red top Blown on the Back up lights. I replaced the fuse and noted the left Back up light was out, Right one worked. Will get the Bulb tomorrow. I notice a small Slit in the Middle of the Lense where the light comes out. Doesn't look like much Light to me. What i would like to know isn't there a Kit available to increase the Light back there?? If so where and has anyone installed one? if so where do you Hook the power into the Kit?I'd like to get a bunch of light back there so i could see to hook up a trailer in the Dark... . I have one on my truck and it's great! Easy install -- it connects to the trailer wiring.



Plus, you can manually turn the light on from the back of the truck.

Rather than get fancy with separate housings, relays, etc I replaced my backup lights with the highest wattage that would fit in the socket, 35 watts if I recall. I can't cruise 45 mph in reverse at night but can sure see a heck of a lot better backing up than I did with the stock bulbs. Suggest you try the same since you're already half way there.

A quick help is to pull the bulb, look in the socket to see which side the power comes from. Then bend the wires from the other side of the bulb (they come out of the bottom and are folded over the bottom of the bulb) so that both filaments light. Hope that makes sense.

Seems to me I recall seeing some 55 watt halogen replacement bulbs in one of the last issues of the J. C. Whitney catalog for approx. $14. 00/pr.



If anyone has tried these I would like to hear how they worked for you.

Back up lights

I went to Walmart, bought a cheap set of driving lights and mounted them in the safety chain holes on the frame hitch. If the 55 Watt bulbs aren't bright enough, buy a set of 100 Watt bulbs and replace the 55 Watt ones.

Hella 450s make wonderful back up lights. Work real well for those behind you with their high beams on too.

Tractor Light Pictures

Thanks Ted those were good. Did you mount them to the Bumper? Or How?. Also what would keep rocks or something from flying up and breaking them? Curious. Bill

I appoligize for that post did you see the picts. I am on a VERy slow dial up as I am not at home right now and have not been able to get the picts to appear. The link in my sig to pict and specs will show you a bunch of things.



The lights are mounted inboard enough that it is really not an issue with rocks but also the rubber tractor housings as very resilient. Some people have put air craft land bulbs in these housings but I am holding off till I blow a bulb or something. They have been on there for almost a year now and work great.



I set up a relay under the hood to a swtich in my over head consul. It is a dpdt switch and one circuit is manual on off and the other is (going to be) hooked up to the reverse sensor sytem to go on with the normal backup lights. All said the whole set up cost about 25 dollars. I make the little brackets to mount them inbehind the bumper just by cutting a couple strips of bar stock and drilling two hole in them. Nothing fancy.
