Found this site interesting. Dodge Big Rigs , back when the only soft thing in the cab was the seat! Steel dashboard (no crashworthy dash pad), no carpet, no Air conditioner, AM radio if you were lucky...

Oh yeah, had me one of them L series cabovers, 318 Detroit, 13 over, and you're right , the only thing padded was the seat, and that wasn't much... ... ...
