OK, let me try to explain this abnormal idle jump.

My truck sits all day at work and when I go to start it in the afternoon, it starts normal. Then about 5 seconds later it burps and jumps idle like you tapped the accelerator pedal just for about 1/2 of a second. It has done this 4 times now. Has anyone else seen this?

Also, when I turn the key on sometimes(not all times) I hear the fuel pump hum intermittently or not at all. Sounds like it is chocking. Could this be a possible sign for pump failure or clogged filter/line issue? I am getting ready to take it to the dealer for some other stuff and wanting some possible ideas before talking to Svc. mgr.

Note: About two weeks ago I left for work and stopped at the end of my driveway to put mail in the box and the truck was blowing White smoke and I could not even see behind the truck! When I took off it quit after about 50ft and has not done it since. I have had normal start up smoke that was very light and disappeared after a few seconds but not a bug spraying white smoke.

I would be thankful for any answers to my questions. I don't know if the white smoke is contributing to the burping or pump chocking issue or not.

same thing, sort of

Inline,

I've had the "burp" right after starting. It's happened about five times now. I've had no other problems, so far. The only white smoke I've seen is short puffs in very cold weather, only in the morning.

The only thing that is making me nervous right now is the surge after startup. My 93 cummins NEVER did this, although it certainly let out smoke.

If anyone knows of a potential cause to this wierd surge let me know.

Thanks,

simon
