Backpressure gauge question

I installed my old 60lb Di Procol boost gauge as my back pressure gauge for my BD brake. I used about 3 ft of copper line and then reduced it to the nylon line that came with the gauge. It worked great for about a month and now rattles and vents exhaust into the cab with the brake engaged. I am gonna guess that the gauge didn't like the heat. Is there something I overlooked in regards to heat dissipation in the install or do you have to have a back pressure specific gauge to hold up in this application?

When I did my back pressure gauge. . I used 10' of copper tube and rolled about 6' into coils like the old moonshine coils. And then I adapted it to the boost tube line into the gauge. There is about 8' of boost line from the copper line to the gauge.

You might consider adding a few more feet of copper coiled in moonshine fashion. If you really want to get creative. . is make a filter for the line. Piers says to use a tampon in some type of tube of the same side as the tampon. This way is filters out the exhaust before it goes inside the cab.

I have been running my NON filtered lines for over a year and nothing yet. .

Maybe thats why my truck has been a little hard to get going in the morning, I'll give her a week and see if she starts acting a little better.



By the way, do you have to change the tampon to a heavy flow when you tow? :-laf

Instead of using the tampon... you could use one of those Dura Maxi-pads

If nothing else, could you possibly buy the hose by itself?

WH, You should see it hit 55-60 psi, with a load going down a grade, with the RPM's around 2600-2800. If you see more, it needs adjustment. To get an accurate reading, it needs a real test, not just going down a flat road, no load.
