2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Parts for Ram 2500

I did a search and found that it could be the switch on the trans. or a fuse. My question is which fuse would I need to look at? Is there something I need to look into? Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Eric

I pulled the fuse and it is OK. (Thanks Thomas) This is probably a stupid question but I am going to ask it anyways. If one of the bulbs blow will the other not work either? Also, is there a way to Ohm the switch to see if it is bad? If it is the switch would the dealer warranty it, but let me change it. I don't really want them keeping my truck for 4 hours for a 10 minute fix.

Thanks,

Eric

DC store (I can't say "dealer" anymore, it gets twisted into the "S" word and that upsets one member-who tattle tales. ) won't give you parts under warranty. They have to do it all to make sure it's done properly.

Fuses can be deceiving, with hairline cracks that defy visual inspection. Replace or test electrically--and wiggle.

One bulb shouldn't kill the circuit, but I could be wrong-have before.

Try not to go backwards after dark and bring it to the meeting. :p

The bulbs will light individually. Both could be defective.

You can pull the connector at the backup light switch on the extension of the NV5600 transmission. With the key in the run position there should be 12+ volts on one of the two contacts of the connector removed from the backup light switch. Shorting the two contacts in the connector (bypassing the switch) should light the backup lamps if you have a bad switch—this might be easier than checking resistance through the switch.

Wade - I will double check the fuse because thats all I did was looked at it. Thats what I was figuring about the dealer. I guess if it comes down to it I will let the dealer replace the switch. I'm not going to be able to make it to the meet on Sunday. :( Let me know how things turn out.

Thomas - I'll short the two contacts this evening and see what happens.

Thanks for replies

Eric

Well I shorted the two contacts out and low and behold the backup lights work. So I figure the switch is bad. I called dealer to see how much it was and they told me $54. . 25  . Said they would have to order it. I told them that I had an apt. with service dept. to change and they said they might be able to get one from another dealer. Thanks for all the help guys.

Eric

Make sure they have a switch before they have your truck! I can do without backup lights but not without my truck.

Service guy told me on the phone they would not order the switch without one of their techs looking at it first. He said that they weren't allowed to do that. So I guess I'll let them look at it, take my truck back home, then when they get the part in take it back. What a pain in the butt!

Eric

I had the same thing wrong with mine. Same scenario as yours. Take it in for them to look at it order it then take it back when they get the switch. They wanted to keep my truck all day. They didn't have any room in the garage to do it. I told them I wanted to talk to the service manager. Within 10 mins they had room for my truck. It took them 10 mins to fix it. It's been fine ever since. I don't take my truck there anymore for work. Jeff

Don't drive it with the switch out. Might sling some oil. ;)

Call another DC store. Tell them you want the switch and the truck is in Texas. Heck try Mopar4Less.com, or such.

Thats sounds like something I would do. I'm still waiting for me to put oil in without the drain plug in. :D I'm goin see what they tell me Friday. Hopefully I won't be  when I leave!

Took my truck in Friday and left it (had somewheres I had to be). They called me little over an hour later to tell me that I was right about the switch. Said another local dealer had one that they was going to get. Gave me a 4 door stratus 4 cyl to drive, now that sucked. Very friendly dealer kept appologizes for taking so long.
