I'm looking for some opinions on what to do.
I have a 2013 Ram 2500 with a check engine light on that was throwing the code that the turbo was not communicating with the computer. I finally got it diagnosed at Dodge and they came back saying the actuator wasn't moving and needed to be replaced, ~$3500 part so ~$4k repair. This does not guarantee that the turbo is not messed up as well so that might need to be replaced after fixing the actuator.
I'm temporarily living in California but my truck is registered in Florida so I don't have emissions to deal with however the local shops around here apparently can't do any kind of an aftermarket turbo swap.
My current potential options I'm aware of would be:
1. Go deal with Dodge and potentially spend a lot of money that I don't have.
2. Drive out of state, possibly Nevada?, and get an aftermarket put in. Looking for suggestions on which one I can get done.
3. Get a rebuilt factory turbo.
I tried taking it to a local shop but he couldn't get his computer to talk to my trucks' other than reading the codes. Is this just his particular computer or am I forced to use Dodge?
I'm new to owning a vehicle with a turbo as well as a diesel so this stuff is over my head. I'd just like to go with my best somewhat affordable option so any help steering me towards that would be hugely appreciated.
