Well I went and doggone done it gang. Messed up on a snow/ice dirt road, lost the *** end of the Dakota, slid backwards/sideways into a deep and wide ditch and put her on the roof :( No injuries, thankfully no one else was involved, just hurt pride and wallet. She's totalled, she'd need all new sheet metal and major roof work. Thankfully they have great structural integrety, she only caved in like 6" in the middle of the roof.

So, its bad damn timing, that I'm not crazy about the '06 Ram facelift, most of the '05's are gone too. Also, I'm torn between spending $35K+ on an '06 "not options perfect" CTD if I can even find one, or $28K on a "pretty close" 1/2 Ton Hemi. Particularly with Diesel being $. 60+ more a gallon now. No one around here has any decent '06 product on the lots, particularly diesels. I don't need a CTD, but, boy are they damn cool. I'd do a double back flip to find a nice '05 or even '06 CTD 3/4 Quad, 6 speed. But that truck is like trying to find Jimmy Hoffa around here :-laf

Anyone have any input or tips??

Sorry for the loss, but now you're okay to buy a CDT, which I say is your best buy, even if it's last year's model. You can't go wrong with the diesel. It'll outlast everything else.

Try e-bay, everyone else shops there or maybr a TDR member will sell you a good un.

Glad everyone's OK... sorry to hear about your other truck.

I'd say that as expensive as the '04 trucks seem to be, you're better off to buy new. The '06 styling will grow on you, and you'll get full warranty.

If it were just a matter of styling, I'd keep my '91 Ford... but can't run the old stuff forever--need the power of a newer truck for what we're pulling.

See what Tommeygun can do( if you don't mind driving it home from MO. ) He can probably give you a great deal on exactly what you want. I am probably going to look him up when it is time for another truck.

Even if fuel is more expensive, your mileage on the Hemi will be horrible. I drove one for a day when they were detailing my CTD. In town, MPG wasn't showing better than low 9's, and that was reseting the meter and babying it. It was a crew cab 4x4. On a good note, it ran well for a stock truck.

Don't forget, the extra hundred bucks you add to your payment for the Cummins will also hold it's value much more than a gas motor.

It also boils down to wether an approximate 100 dollars per month added to your payment will be worth having the truck you really want. If you have to finance a little longer, so be it. . You'll have what you want. . Just my opinion. .

Completely true! When I got my CTD, I was saving over 100$/MTH in fuel that my 302van used. I still think it's worth the extra $ for the CTD.

It's just a Daktoa!! Now you can buy a real truck.....

Get a 2003-2004. 5 cummins you will be really glad you did.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Glad there were no injuries. Part of what I used to justify a Cummins purchase was resale value. Especially if it's going to be high mileage. I didn't need the power of the cummins but I do a lot of miles. Look at nada for a 5 year old truck cummins vs a gasser. There is a big differential.
