I fueled up Thursday, after a day in the field (oil), with the low fuel warning light shinning and drove 30 miles home. Next day, driving to a new location about 60 miles away, I notice my egt's and boost higher than normal, and my overhead mpg lower. Could this be caused by a bad fillup? I have been using the Supertech 2 stroke oil for the last 4 fillups and it seems to have increased my mpg, as well as smoothing out the engine.

One that I use often, Town & Country convenience store. I don't know what brand diesel they carry, tho.

Might be dpf regen?

Does your rig have the new emission DPF on it? If it does, then it might have been in a regen mode and i know all those symptoms you mentioned will be present if that is the case. Not sure when they started putting the DPF on. Your truck might be one of the lucky ones that dont have it. Mine does. :{

5. 9's don't have that stuff!

Anyway, are you sure you were going the same speed? And was there a headwind?

Same speed and almost no wind at all. That's mainly why I noticed, because of all the wind we've been having lately, usually head or cross wind. I guess I will find out if it was just a bad tank of fuel when I run this tank out and start into the next.

Still no change after 2 fillups with Chevron diesel. My egt is about 800 running the cruise control on 65-70. Boost runs about 10 at the same speed. Wingate, I don't know what you are referring to, top drive unit behind my truck?

Sorry Kiker, I saw you're from Odessa and you said you worked in the oil field... . I was joking when I asked if you might be towing a top-drive unit behind your truck, that would cause some fuel mileage issues... Top-drive unit is a massive piece of equipment used on a diesel electric (SCR) rig rather that the old power rigs that used floor motors. .

Have you pulled the air filter and inspected it?.

I run AFE ProGuard 7 and the filter minder was just off the base line. So, I pulled it out, as it was dirty, and put in a regular paper filter, while I clean and oil the AFE. No change. Can anyone tell me if my egt gauge could get out of calibration? I am running 800 degrees, give or take, going down the hiway with the cruise on 65-70. I was running about 650, give or take. Boost is 10 psi and was 7, give or take.

I do work in the oilfield and have worked on top drive drilling rigs. I worked on one in '94 that went to Gabon, Africa, and almost went with it for about 4 months. Several co-workers went and had quite the experiences!
