Bad Injector?

Driving on the highway for about 5 hours... got to town and slowed down and the motor started making a noise like a bucket of bolts falling down the stairs... sounds like a timing rattle. Seems ok in neutral and under throttle, really bad in drive with the brakes on. Is this a bad injector? Any other things it could be? Had the Smarty jr on the economy setting, changed the fuel filter a couple of days ago in preparation for the trip. I have to go to a shop tomorrow and don't want to get taken for a ride. Ishould add that the truck seems to run fine other than the noise, no smoke, no loss of power but the mileage has been dropping latley.

does it have a diesel knock when you get on on the highway that comes and goes could possibly be an injector that about the same things my truck is doing i took it in to the local shop and the they said mine were leaking my mileage dropped down about 5 to 7 mpg
