Went to start the beast one morning recently and didn't hear that distinctive "buzz" of the lift pump. Cycled the key once again only to hear it try and then give it up again. Called my dealer for an appointment to have the pressure tested. Unfortunately, the diesel mechanic at the dealership had been in a terrible accident and wouldn't be back for quite some time. The dealer sent me to a local diesel shop who is handling their warranty work in the mean time. A connection of their pressure guage showed 9psi at idle and 6psi at WOT. The diesel mechanic doing the testing said; "all within specs, not to worry. " I left a bit relieved but bewildered at the sudden lack of pump response on startup. Well, as the good Lord is always watching out for me, our local chapter of the TDR was scheduled to be the guests at Thomas-Hill-Burgin Chrysler/Dodge in Kodak TN the following Saturday. As we were being given a guided tour of the service facilities (btw, they were so clean you could eat off the floor), a dicussion of lift pumps ensued. As I was casually telling the resident diesel mechanic of my earlier trip to the diesel shop, he bagan to give me a funny look. 9 and 6psi huh? That's way below spec. ! He then very kindly agreed to check mine on the spot to be sure. This time the pump read 5psi at idle and 2psi at WOT. DEAD!!! The dealership kindly arranged for a replacement pump and installed it the following Monday morning as promised. Upon driving the beast back home I discovered a new found treat... . POWER! I have been content with the power of this HO engine for over two years thanking that was all there was. All the while not knowing I was running way below the norm. I have now noticed a small increase in fuel mileage as well as a large increase in smiles! I thank God for directing me and providing the timing of our TDR meet as well as offer my great thanks to Thomas-Hill-Burgin Chrysler/Dodge for their great service and attention. It may be farther from home, but I look forward to working with them again in the future! Oo.
