Hey Guys,
I just bought my first cummins! Woot Woot!
I bought it when i was in California
now I am driving it home
stopped in vegas to have the fluids and filters changed
however. .
after leaving the shop today,
it stahls when it is not moving
when the fuel filter was being changed the mechanic notified me that
the lift pump in the tank was not working
he said thats how i got there and I would me good to
make it 2000 miles to michigan.

I eventually planned on upgrading to an airdog
but was mainly wondering if it was safe to drive home
without damaging my p pump?

any advice for me?

A '97 has a block mounted mechanical lift pump. There is a sending unit in the tank with the fuel pickup. As for the stalling I wonder if there is some air in the fuel lines from changing the filter. That should work itself out if that is the case.

he didn't know there was a manual primer on the mechanical pump and had a hard time and long cranking time on your starter trying to fill the fuel filter .

so do you think I am safe to drive home?

or is there a way to test if my lift pump

is working? I would probably just get a

stock replacement if I knew it was not working

for sure. .

yes, you have to put a gauge between the lift pump and the Ppump . I had mine checked at Atlantic Cummins the last time I had it checked ,it had 32 psi .
