Today I installed a mechanical FP gauge and I have 8. 5 lbs @ idle & 3. 5 @ WOT.

I just purchased this truck and it has 80K on it. The truck runs fine... although I am only getting ~13. 8 mpg. The fuel filter was changed about 10K ago. I have installed an AFE cone air filter, banjo bolts, and removed the muffler.

My question is... will the dealership cover replacing my lift pump? If so, should I re-install my stock air cleaner before taking it to the dealership? Will the upgraded banjo bolts effect the warranty?

I would prefer not to spend ~$175. 00 on a new pump if I don't have to.

Is there a chance my injection pump is damaged?

Can anyone recommend a dealership/service advisor that can help? I am located in San Jose, CA.

Any suggestions, comments are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Kevin

The dealer should cover the lift pump as it is covered under the 100K mile ebgine warranty. The only stipulation is that the truck is a 98. 5, and it would depend on the "in service" date- you might be beyond the 5 years. Calling the dealer with the VIN should determine that.

If the pump is not covered by the dealer I would head to your local Cummins parts house, not a dealer for the pump. You can do much better than $175.

98. 5 lift pump is covered under the 80K HD emissions warranty, not the 100K engine warranty. I went through this with my dealer, who called Dodge, and I also called Dodge who says its right in your owners manual warranty section.

My grounds was that the lift pump is bad, if I don't replace it, it will take out the injection pump which is covered for 100K miles, they said "its only covered for 80K miles". I said several others on TDR have had them replaced for free over 80K miles, they said "some dealers replace them as a good will thing, but they are paying for it, because its only covered for 80K miles.

I gave up, went to cummins and bought on for around a buck 60.

Plus I did not have to give up my truck for a couple days while the dealer got around to fixing it.
