After a few tanks of < 30mpg city driving in my Golf, which had been filled lately only at the neighborhood Diamond Shamrock, I filled up with Shell diesel fuel. My milege immeadiatley shot back up to +35mpg city. I got 25 with the DS stuff at the same 2. 79/gallon.
As luck would have it, last week I recieved my quartlerly copy of the TDR and in it was an article on poor fuel economy. I stated that a possible cause was low cetane values. It aso stated there is no diesel fuel standard for cetane in the US. For high speed diesels, they say a value of 40-50 is best. I guess I need a way of verifying cetane now...
