I have an 2006 2500 Ram 4x4 with 3,000 miles on it i have 35"tires the dealer put on it. It has a 3. 73 gear i only get 12mpg if that i average 295-350 miles on a tank. I have been told this normal until 10,000 miles & other people say i should get 20 mpg. does any one know for sure. this is my first diesel pick up.

yeah just wait until the engine breaks in. you'll see a little better mileage. also your gears might be a little low. 4:56 is the ideal gear to get it close to stock tires & gears. i could tell a big difference on my 01 gasser. i had 35's with stock 3:55 gears. it would bog a little but on the highway in 5th and sometimes 4th i could mash it and wouldn't move. i wouldn't change gears if your not doing anything intense with the truck. besides you don't have to worry about bogging the cummins, never will be a problem :-laf

You also didn't say where you are located. In the summer my mileage was approaching 20 but is now 14-15 with cold temps (below 0 F), winter fuel (lower btu content), lots of drag, etc.

If your speedo hasn't been corrected for the tires, your calculations will be low. You are clicking off less miles than you are actually travelling.

Ask the dealer to calibrate your speedo, hey can do it easily, then you'll have an accurate baseline. If you don't tow, I would expect milage to increase till about 25K. I ran mine hard and she toppedou around 20k, then the rest was differences in power configurations. BTW, don't be afraid to hook that sucker up to something heavy and drag it around for a bit. It'll help. Don't be nice to it.

The dealer Calibrated it when i Got it. I tried to simulate a load & filled the truck bed with

6`logs to the top & tried to keep the O. D. on so it would keep the trans from shifting in to 4th gear & keep the RPM`s up . will that help break it in. i am in Michigan. My millage hasent changed with the weather can i expect worse millage.
