My drivers side motor mount is coming apart on my 06, there are large chunks of rubber missing from it. Has anyone else had one fail this early? I only have 49k on the truck. Any tips on replacement procedure? It looks fairly straightforward but access seems a little tight. Is there a better replacement than OEM (Carli is out, don't want the vibration)? Thanks in advance.

I have not heard of motor mount failures on these trucks - I think a failure is highly unusual. I would not be afraid to use an OEM mount.

Sometimes, because of the way motor mounts are made, the exterior of the mount can look pretty rough. Try using a bottle jack and some blocking to raise the side of the engine with the problem mount and see if the mount separates from the engine or the frame.

I have had the Carli R&D mounts for many years now-very slight increased vibration after a few miles are put on them, anybody that does much real off roading will benefit from the strength they add.I used to check clearance on all the 4x4 3rd gens between the crossmember and oil pan very few had the same clearance as new.

John - I have never heard of a mount failure on these trucks either but this is definitely not a cosmetic issue. I'll try to post a pic tomorrow.

Bob - I started noticing a "clunk" in the drivetrain the day after a 100+ mile off road trip in central AZ. I believe that clunk is the failed mount. Your description of the Carli mounts sounds a lot better than Carli's own description of the vibration. Maybe it's not as bad as they make it sound...

I've seen quite a few mount failures on trucks that get used hard off road-the very reason they were developed.Grant you might want to find some one in phoenix running them to see for your self if the vibe amount is going to work for you.check with Strapt performance they may help you in driving one

i just got through replacing mine, i also noticed the transmission mount was shot, i got new ones at partsgeek.com price was good and heavier built than oem

I once saw a Third Gen which had broken the bolts holding the mount to the bracket that bolts to the engine block; see TDR issue 77.

Many issues show up sooner rather than later when a heavy engine gets used off road, done quite a few repairs in the boonies you never see on street queens

Just to update, the motor mount has been replaced. The original was failing but I don't think I could call it "failed" just yet, it was mostly together with some good size rubber chunks missing. I replaced it with OEM.

Bad news is the "clunk" is still there but I have tracked that down to aftermarket lower control arm bushings. After I'm done buying everyone else Christmas gifts I'll call Carli and get mine. :)

When using these trucks off road the motor mounts are a well known issue, I personally would not run Carli either as I have been in a few trucks with them and cant stand the vibration.

My Motormounts did bend down so badly that the oil pan hardly touched the crossmember, Offroad use.
Bought new OEM and installed the Prothane Kit into them to make them withstand my use.

I did the Prothane mounts in mine about a year ago, unfortunately they are not holding up well.
