There isnt a repair manual. Nobody has been trained. The variable turbo is causing grief. I dont here good stuff about this thing. They have a problem child at the local shop and nobody knows anything about it. They said that they did this with the 24v. Released it but nobody could work on it.

Hmmmm - here's the tech manual and where it can be ordered:

Here's the training material for "CUMMINS COMMON RAIL DIESEL ENGINE OVERHAUL - INSTRUCTOR-LED TRAINING - INSTRUCTOR COURSEWARE":

https://techauthority.gltghosting.c...tegoryId=80144&parent_category_rn=80105&qty=0

Here's the "2003 RAM TRUCK (1500-3500) POWERTRAIN DIAGNOSTIC MANUAL":

https://techauthority.gltghosting.c...tegoryId=80158&parent_category_rn=80102&qty=0

Lastly there isn't a variable geometry turbo on the '03 trucks - it's a new version of the HY35 that's been on the trucks for a few years. Sounds like typical dealer misinformation to me.

This was from the tech at cummins who use to work for dodge. The variable was on a motor home as was the engine. He was pretty disgustipated that he did not have the required information on how to work on it. He said the same was true on the 24v while he worked for chrysler. If the material is available why would they not have it? Not doubting. just wondering.

I wonder if the dc techs have been trained on the new isb. Cause as far as I could tell no one at cnw had been to school. The motor he was griping about was in a class a. I was the one who filled in the blanks. He said no books ,I thought no books on the dodge application. He said no training, I thought no training for anybody, DC included. He was in a hurry so I didnt have time to get all the info. I was inquiring about a reflash and we got off subject.

2 techs from my dealer have been sent to training and 1 of them will actually work on a diesel engine I havn't figured out why the sent the other tech yet. It took them a long time to send anyone to school on it. I don't know why they don't get the techs trained before they release the new models.

If it is a Dodge dealer they have the repair manual on their computer it isn't as easy to use and takes to long to download the info onto the computer and the diag book is not in the computer at least the old ones I'm not sure about the new system the have now my dealer still hasn't switched over.

When I went to visit my truck at the dealership yesterday (see "Stranded" thread ), the service manager complained he didn't even have a diagnostic manual. "Which one?" I asked; "Powertrain" he replied; "Here, I have one under the back seat," says I (thanks to sag2 for turning me on to the existence of and source for the manual). He was told they were backordered and not available--he took my manual and gave the parts manager a little talking to--and was grateful to now have the proper manual to diagnose my truck

Since he also found another dealer to borrow the special tool he was also missing (a fitting for tapping into the high pressure side of the common rail), maybe now there's a chance I can get my baby back sooner.

I guess it varies from dlr to dlr. Mine has had his diesel tech to the common rail schools, plus one of the gas techs who helps out. Both are up to speed on the '03's.

My dealer still hasn't switched over!!

kaffine, is the tech that is going to work on the diesels worked on previous models? As for not switching over tell Ricky and Jerry to get busy and get your guys going!!:p mgonske, I take it you are on their payroll now, right?? :D

ntenna,

I see that you are from Suffolk also. Who is your dealer? I'm using Starr and the truck should be in Tue or Wed and I should take delivery on Friday. Oo. Oo.

Starr is my dealer as well!

Tommy #1 and Tommy #2 do the diesel stuff (#1 is the younger). Ask Sharon in service to introduce you to Tommy #1. He has always gone the extra distrance to make me happy. Checked the fluid levels twice. Both are good mechanics, good guys.

If you want stripes, they have a guy in prep who has worked there a long time who does a great job; ask Fred Wilkins to hook you up with him. They did some N/C for me, but I have bought a bunch of trucks from them.

Checked out your signature, our trucks are almost twins! This should keep them guessing... ... .

We'll have to hook up over there sometime and compare notes. PM me whenever.....

Enjoy the new ride, I sure do!

The HPCR training was done after the release of the trucks, but so far I havent seen any problems other than electrical and trans due to the cooler line check valve issues. Lets hope Bosch made this system durable as well as clean burning.
