we had a nail in the tire so we stoped at a firestone service center

had it fixed. the guy that fixed IT jumped in my truck and down the road he went. well when the SOB came back we had payed by then

we got in the truck and the 4x4 light was on. the guy told us it was like that when we came in.

we had a hard time geting back in two wheel drive.

we had to back up 11 or 12 feet then it unlocked

now it does not want to go into 4x4 at all

WHAT A HARD WAY TO LEARN A LESSON

NEVER LET SOME SERVICE GUY DRIVE YOUR TRUCK WITHOUT YOU IN IT!!!!!!!!!

Holloway,

Did Un-licensed-Minimum wage Felon ask you for permission to even climb into you Rig?

There should not be any reason to road test a patch/fix, whats the point? it may go flat in the 1st minute?

I never let any of those Grease Monkey, Circus-clown rejects even peek inside mine:)

you know i dont THINK I WOULD LET THIS SLIDE. he had no business driving your truck. you know it was not in 4x4 when you brought it in and you know it wasnt damaged when you brought it in. enen if he noted it was in 4x4 he should not have driven it on dry pavement anyway that will damage most 4 bys. talk to the mgr if that dont work have it fixed and take them to small claims court. in our state you can file small claims court for 15 to $20 and no attys allowed. i'm baseing this it not being a quick and cheap fix. robert

when we talked with the mgr he told us

that service guys are in a habit of test driven the cars to see if you may have a safety problem

all shops test drive cars unless you ask them not to

so i don't know what to tell you:-{}

I had a similar experience with a service center that was doing rustproofing for me. I caught them joyriding my truck when I returned to pick it up. They gave me the run around, but couldn't give me a legit reason to be "test driving" a vehicle after rustproof installation. Called the BBB that afternoon and recieved a call from the regional manager of the installer and a solution to problem the very next day. Many will tell you that the BBB doesn't get any legitimate results, but it did work in my case.

It's more work but put on the spare tire and just present the tire shop with the tire that needs fixing. Return the spare to its home after you get the road tire fixed.

Thats why i told the idiots that i would pull my truck into the bay when i got new tires. It was a joke to sit there and watch them pull the other cars out of the bay...

Hope you can get somewhere w/your problem

When EVER truck is taken to tire, service or what ever I HOLD THE KEYS and say I'll move it myself. When I had to have a hub rebuilt I read the odometer to make sure they don't joy ride my truck. And I tell them make sure you don't have this happen.

I may get one of those smarty programer and turn the rpm and speed way down when I take it in

that would flip them out

I was looking at the smarty and what you can do with it neat

Just install a Kill Switch in a place only you know where it is and under the dash install several Trevel hooks scattered around so if they reach underneath the dash or if one of the Neighborhood thieves decides on taking a shot @ your radio, he will have something to remember for the rest of his life:)

I still thank the smarty thing would blow there mind

set it so it's 5mph top speed

set rpm's a little over idle so they can move it in the parking lot

it would be great when I have my truck painted the guys in the body shop would love me:-laf

jgill had a good point about the better businss bureau. i see a lot of people asking members how a certain business is that they are thinking of using. you can also call the BBB. they can tell you how many complaints a business has , what they were and some times how they were solved... ... ... ... ... ... ..... i know, i never do it either

I make it very clear when I drop off the truck that if it's going for a test drive I'm going with it. The only time it goes to a shop is for tires or suspension work and once in a while they seem to forget about this. I pull it in forward and have no pattern on the shift knob so while they're trying to find reverse on the 5600 I have time to walk outside and climb in the cab :).

no one ever drives my truck ...

once at national tire and battery the manager said "just leave it out front with the keys in it"

i said "no ... call me and i'll pull it in"

he said they had to do it for insurance reasons ...

i told him to give me my money back ...

i pulled the truck in right then and there ...

got out with the keys in my hands and even bs'ed with the guys mounting / balancing the tires

two guys were waiting for their cars to be pulled in when i showed up and were still in the waiting room when i left

I understand how nobody wants a Tech to drive their truck, but I can tell you that when I was a Tech, and when I owned my own shop, if you didn't want me to drive your vehicle, then I wanted you to go someplace else. You either trust the guy working on your vehicle, or you don't. If you can't trust them to drive it, how the heck can you trust them to work on it? I recommend you find a repair shop that you have confidence in.

I still pull wrenches on occasion, mostly to fill in for guys that go on vacation. Not long ago a guy brought a 1984 Crossfire Injected Vette in for an alignment. I test drove it afterwards. As I drove out of the lot he was trying to run out in front of me, waving his arms to stop. I steered around him and drove out. When I came back he was standing at the edge of the road waiting for me. He was pretty crabby. To make a long story short, the Boss told him "If my customers can trust my Techs to road test a $200,000 Ferrari, then it's OK if we drive your POS $3500. 00 Corvette. " (It was parked next to a Lambo at the time) He continued to be a pain in the butt on later visits, wanting to watch the Tech work on the car. He still brings his car there, but now he drops it off to get worked on.

I know that as a Tech I never wanted any contact with the owner of the vehicle, unless I was trying to get an intermittent problem to show up. If they needed to be there while I was wrenching on it, then they didn't trust me. If they didn't trust me, I wasn't interested in doing business with them. Do yourself a favor and avoid the chain stores. On average, they employ guys that can't make it anywhere else. Find a shop that has a nice facility, and nice cars in the lot. His labor rate will probably be a bit higher, but when he returns from a road test your 4WD light won't be on, and your truck wouldn't have gotten it's butt thrashed. That's worth the extra $5. 00 labor rate.
