Cruz or Sentra?

Hybrid Tahoe Problem

That's what some car people call a vehicle "borrowed" from one manufacturer to use in another's product line. Sometimes this will show an alliance you may not have been aware of. I thought it would be fun to start a thread about this. I was inspired by the recent post asking about the Sterling Bullet. https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?244427-What-is-a-Sterling, and the recent article in issue 81 TDR's "Four Whaling"

The idea is to call out badge jobs like that one. I was just on my local highway and saw another badge job. One I think nobody is aware of.
I'll kick it off with-
The Mitsubishi Raider

It's a last gen Dodge Dakota with mega sheet metal work.

Another-
The Mercury Villager

Is a Nissan Quest with a grille and emblems changed.

Some are just emblems stuck on, like the villager. Some are more reworked, like the Raider.

Seems every manufacturer does that now. Years ago, a Ford was a Ford and a Lincoln was a Lincoln. Now, its just simple BADGE ENGINEERING. Same with GMC and Chevy. Mazda B and Ford Ranger trucks.

Got to take a minute for this, kinda' fun...

HA! Honeydoo list. Gotcha beat Mike! Today is my 17th year of marital bliss. Headed to a neat place called Peddlers Village just outside of Philly in picturesque Bucks county pa. , for an overnighter. I may be underground for a day, but I hope everyone has fun.

Mike, as a parts guy, can you imagine the chaos at the VW counter looking up and getting those Routan parts?!

I always like these, from 1946-1968 Canada made Mercury/Ford pickups and trucks for Ford. These are both '67 models, note the bumper on the Ford, that is not the right one for that year, it is a '73 and up bumper, the Merc. has the right one:)

Happy anniversary Wayne! The wife has been wanting to take me to Peddlers Village for several years now, one day we will get up there. She grew up in the area and has alot of family in the Fairless Hills area in Bucks County.
Hope you guys have a great time.

Let the trivia hunting continue. One of our guys at work, his parents own a Buick (late model, forget the name) that they said was an rebadged Opel and it has are you sitting down! a MANUAL TRANSMISSION!!!!!!!!!!!!! I seen it, it ain't just a slap stick either.

Believe it or not, AFAIK, GM hasn't had a new platform in a while, the the only real American Chevy left is the Impala. They are pulling from Opel and vauxhall. These would all be badge jobs for sure. The new Chevy cruze diesel is 100% Opel.

While not an automobile, several years ago while working in the shop where I work. I get asked to take a look at this small excavator engine, sure, it was a slow day, why not.
So, its yellow iron, (Caterpillar) but I dont recognize the engine. Odd looking little P. O. S... . hhmmm, its got a Caterpillar serial number plate and s/n. but its a little inline 6 with a split head much like some old cummins. Started thingking it might be a Perkapillar, but no...
Mitsubitshi!. are you freaking kidding me, a Mitsu engine!. Come to find out, the entire machine was a Mitsu, badge engineered to be Caterpillar!

Didn't CAT buy out EMD locomotives? I heard they just bombed one yellow and brought it to a big heavy EQ convention.

Speaking of engines and such. Look at Mack, they decided that their venerable Etech engines weren't worth the investment to conform to the new emission regs, so they just scrapped it all and took Volvo's engines.
Mack MP7 = Volvo D11

My wife drives what I think is the best badge job ever. It's an 06 Pontiac GTO. It's on a Holden Monaro platform. 6. 2 LS 2 with a 6 speed tremec. The new Chevy SS is on a Holden platform also. Holden is an Australian subsidiary of GM. I think they have more imagination and build better vehicles than the rest of GM put together.
