5200 lb. axles? That means 15" wheels and tires and all the problems that usually accompany them.

Considering the abuse out LRC 14"s have taken and kept on truckin over the last 10K miles I am not to worried.

5200lb axles on a 8,200 GVWR is pretty good IMHO, but hey there isn't much that lives up to Harvey's expectations, unless he owns it.

I do agree with Harvey on the ST 15" tires, but that is something you can change out to 16" LT in the near future. In the mean time, don't push them more than 65 mph and no more than 3 years from the date stamped on the sidewalls.

Yeah 16's are certainly the way to go, but then again the 14's took 70 mph, and thousands of miles of dirt roads over 4 years.

Yup, and U-Haul runs the little suckers by the thousands. I have the so called bad tires on my two flatbed trailers, 235/80R16 load range E made in China or Bulgaria or somewhere and seem to have good luck. However if/when I have a blowout nothing is damaged.



I would love to have a set of 17. 5 commercial 16 ply tires and 8,000 lb axles on my new goose neck for some extra margin. With the 7,000 lb axles and the tires above I am always at my max capacity.



Like you said at 8,200 GVW the 5200 axles and tires should be fine. With the standard 6 bolt wheel pattern, if and when you want to up grade, any Chevy wheel will work, they are laying around by the thousands.

We spend so much time on dirt roads that I am always checking the tires in the mirrors, when I stop, and always before getting up to speed after 40 miles of dirt. I have had 2 flats in 4 years, and caught them both before the pressure ran out.

Toy Haulers

We have recently made the decision to procure one of these. We have looked at various makes and models and have pretty much settled on this:

This trailer is very well made. The cabinets are wood and are screwed together, it has a 50 amp service, turnover axles for high ground clearance, an 8 ft ramp door with a built in beaver tail. Two rows of tie downs that you can park 4 atv's in 2x2. A fiberglass roof cap instead of aluminum for durability, an option for a 5500 watt Onan gen with 50 amp service and two air conditioners, two 6K axles with 16 inch e rated tires etc. 40 gallon fuel station and a built in external pressure washer.

The best thing about these toy haulers is that they are extremely comfortable to just go camping in.

We looked at used and other options. We will end up spending about 10k more overall for this trailer over buying a used one that would fit our criteria.

Now my '05 dually is being prepped for this. I already installed my airbags and have a b&W combo on the way.
