For drag-racing and sled-pulling use, are ball-bearing turbos okay? I'd like the quicker spool up of the BB turbos, but have some concerns about how much heat they'll take vs. traditional bearings. Most of the turbo shops haven't sold BB turbos to sledpullers, so nobody seems to be able to help...

Get one with a water cooled CHRA... heat problems solved

More than anything - I'd worry about overspeeding one... they spool VERY fast and you'll need a BIG, finely tuned wastegate to keep it within safe limits...

We pull with one... Home grown HX50/55 hyrbrid, Ball bearing'd, pulled 6-8 times with it, but has been on the truck for 30,000 miles. Building 600-700 horsepower with it. Truck is dedicated puller as of now and it seems to not care what we do to it. Ours spools nicely jumps to 65 lbs.

Hey Paul: My next upgrade involves lots of paperwork and the exchange of money. (mortgage) I'm buying the place up in Sauk County... nothing against Fitchburg. :)

I've been hearing sporadic reports of people running some kind of Holset hybrid with ball bearings. What kind of CHRA is used for this retrofit?

I really dig ball bearing CHRA's... even better when combined with VGT/VNT!
