I got around to installing my ball joints tonight, what a pita. After i installed them i noticed the upper ball joint stud will move in and out of the ball joint housing about an inch. Anybody notice this? Wonder why this is. Maybe in case the ball joints dont bottom out in their taper at the same time. Doesnt this mean the lower ball joint than carries all of the load and shock applied to that wheel.

Mark that doesn`t sound good! if there is movement on you ball joint stud the joint is no-good! if i understand you correctly this ball joint would have this problem even if it was taken out again, which would mean the joint is useless. if you didn`t have your nut tightened on your ball joint stud and there was a little movement side to side it would just mean your studd isn`t tight enough. sounds strange

If they are moog you need to check and read the little paper that comes in the box. Mine did the same thing. I read the paper and it said that it is supposed to move like that. It is supposedly for easier install. Once all put back together I have had no issues.
