I have a 2001 1/2 Cummins and need new ball joints for the second time at 93000. I went to the part store and for Moog they have two choices for the Dana 60 uppers. One says HD (very expensive) Moog part is K7396. The other is K794 for the upper and K7397 for the lower. There is also a NAPA store in the area that I have not checked. Does anyone prefer these. Also, I have been told a long reach ball joint press is needed. My friend has a tool but I dont know if it will fit yet. Just trying to get all the ducks in a row before I tear it apart. Hope I am not sorry. I am a fairly decent farm mechanic but have never attempted this particular job. Thanks for the help in advance.

Moog part number from Summitracing.com is:

MOG-K7394 - Upper (73. 39 each)

MOG-K7397 - Lower (73. 39 each)

I just replaced mine on my 01.

Also, check out quad4x4.com they have a kit which comes with tools and everything you need! I paid a shop to it based on the fact that removing the wheel bearings is a major PITA and I did not have time to do it. I spent the money on 6 hrs of labor for the local shop to replace all 4 ball joints on my front end.

I replaced mine a month ago, and O'reilly if you have one near will match NAPA.

Moog Part # K7394 $51. 63

Moog part # K7397 $62. 90

And it was a PITA #@$%!

Just had mine done today!

Napa, $83. 00 each X 4

$405. 35 in labor. Said it was a pain in the *****!

Dealer wanted $1,000. 00 plus.

124k on the 01 quadcab

Those prices are downright ridiculous! I paid $60 a side (upper and lower balljoints) for Spicer (same as factory) ball joints at the local Six States. Changing them isn't too hard. I used my a standard ball joint press and had no problems.

thanks guys I thinks I am going to try it. I have a little time this next week so I am going to light the stove and hide from the elements and do it. I hope I don't have to wrap it up loosely and take it somewhere to be finished.
