Ok, maybe this is a dumb question... bear with me if it is. I'm in process of ball joint replacement on my 98 4wd & cant tighten the lower ball studs due to the ball stud rotating with the nut. Is this normal? Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.

rotating stud

Hi KSTRS,

That happens sometimes when replacing ball joints, and other front end parts. Try to compress the stud into the socket it fits into and then tighten it. In your case you might want to use a jack on the bottom of the knuckle, or even under the tire, to accomplish that. I've even used big water pump pliers on tie rod ends etc. that did that.

Thanks Joe, I tried that once before posting this thread. Slept on it & tried again temporarily adding a washer under the nut to seat the stud, then removed the washer before torquing. I think I may not have had enough weight on the knuckle the first time, but It worked the second time. Thanks Again. :D

you're welcome. It's not likely to be often that I would have a helpful post with so many knowledgeable folks around these forums, but I'm glad it worked out for you.
