2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Ball Joint replacement cost ?

I passed my annual inspection, but was told I have slight play in the lower right front ball joint. I assume I'll get both upper and lower done, as well as a replacement rotor. Anyone know what this should cost to have done professionally for one side ?

Ball Joint

Before you have it done, check to make sure its bad. Jack it up by the axle so the tire is a couple inches off the ground. Find something to use as a prybar, about 3' long. Slide it under the tire to pry the tire up in the air. New joints will go in and out a little. GM actually allows for 1/4"! I allow up to 1/16". If they say its loose, thats where you'll see it. They can cause more steering problems by drying out and rusting up. That makes them real tight and wear a spot centered so the wheel doesn't want to turn.

Just did an upper ball joint on my '00. Dodge doesn't replace upper ball joints they replace the upper control arm- $400 plus labor $775. You can get an upper ball joint from a parts store for $100-200 and then hammer out the old one and get an alignment. Dealer price $585.

Just an opinion, but I would suggest getting the Moog replacements. Much better than OEM in my opinion.

I only have experience with the Moog. They have the zerk fittings and have been problem free since they have been installed. I grease them at every oil change. I also did the upgrade to my wife's Durango. Ball joints are not rocket science, however, Chrysler sure screwed them up with about 100 other things. Also, while your add it, add the DSS.

Carli and Dyna-trac are out of their mind for what they charge. I believe Carli only makes ball-joints for 3rd generation trucks. I would go with Moog or Spicer. If you go to the *******, they will make the decision for you. You will get Spicer.
