Replacing ball joints

Went to my local Dodge dealer today for the thottle cable recall. While there I asked them for an estimate to replace the ball joints and universal joints on my 96. I about fell over dead when he said $1,500. 00. The service manager said that included replacing the axle seals. He said he could not guarantee they would not leak with 65,000 miles on it. He also stated it takes 5 hours just to replace the left side as you have to go in through the moon and remove it from the inside. IS THIS TRUE??????? The right side is no problem.

Thanks for the replys on my last post. It doesn't sound like to difficult of a job to do myself.

If you're taking it to the stealer (Valley) in Wenatchee you can see why I never went there, those guys suck. Standard price for replacing one front axle seal is $150 at most dealers, both sides need the diff innards removed to perform, about 1 hr each side. That price they are giving you for the whole job is with over priced dealer parts. Contact TDR member Ted Hazen in Leavenworth for info, he just did the ball/u-joint /seal job himself, said it was no problem.
