i am trying to get my buddy into a CTD however there are two problems and i need some advice.

1. the oil pan gasket is leaking. his mechanic is telling to change the gasket he has to pull the transmission. that is BS right. i know the book may call for that but that is BS right? how much should he be charged ( a fair price to have someone change this gasket?)

2. he was quoted 1100 to change the ball joints upper and lower on both sides... ... this sounds high. what would be a fair price? how hard are they to change?

guys i am trying to get my another buddy into a CTD but he is ready to walk. he is waiting on me to give him an answer.

thanks CAT

I had the ball joints on my 99 (not sure if they are the same) done for a little over 800 but the mechanic is a friend of mine. 1100 might noit be too out of line. I rememebr half of my cost was the parts alone!

Check TDR advertiser QUAD 4X4 for ball joint kit. There's a link here on the forum ("Links" at the top of your screen). They're under "Suspension, Axles and Gears".

Cat,

I had the dealer replace the oil pan gasket on my 2001 for the very same reason. Yes, they need to pull the trans to do it right... ... . However, they didn't unbolt my exhaust and lifted one side of the engine, took me a while to line my exhaust back up.

Ball joints in 4x4's take a while to do, with a couple special tools. I've heard of $800 for a couple of people.
