ball joints

I am looking for info on proper ball joint inspection and tollerances on 05 4x4 3500. I have never seen upper joints that have travel up and down and would like to learn why they do. Lower joints are tight like I am used to seeing. Is this part of the design? Where could I find tech data and specks on movement tollerences and related ball joint , tie rod play. My girl has 150+ on her and needs a little love in her front end , thanks!!!

Allowable play is . 09 thou vertica/ . 06 thou horizontal.

The top joint works more as a pivot/kingpin and all the weight is on the bottom.

My 04 got OEMs every 90K miles until last set, and I installed Carli's, hopefully the last .
