Anybody found replacement ball joints for an '01 2WD anywhere that have grease fittings? Moog doesn't make them yet. I'm beginning to think that my only option is to buy "greased for life" and put a zerk fitting in them.

I have no info on source...

... but when all of the talk was going around about installing grease zerks on the tie rod ends... . I installed zerks to the bottom ball joints in the same manner.

Have a good day, it is going to be sunny here.

Drill and zerk them A. S. A. P. ! I only wish I did mine back in the day. I have just under 100K on the truck and found some balljoint slop the other day. I'm gonna have to pull it all apart and do everything new. I'm getting some serviceable U-Joints as well since I'm gonna be in that far.

Believe it or don't.

Called one parts store in town for the uppers (I get a "deal" there), they wanted $71+ each for my '96 and had to order them.

Called Kragen's :--) (I know), but; they had 'em, same brand same part number as the other place with grease fitting for $32 ea. in stock.

Go figure.

Guess where I'm gettin' my "deal" Oo.

I'm getting all new serviceable ball joints with zerks since I have to replace them. If I were to do it again from day one, I'd drill them. Scary thing is, as the years went by, the number of zerks has dwindled.

Could you post a picture of the lower ball joint zerks, I was wanting to do that but was afraid they would rub the inside of the wheel.

TIA

Have you guys checked yet to see if the balljoints on 2001 are a available? I repaired a truck at work and nobody makes new joints for these yet. Had to replace all 4 control arms(very pricey). Good luck. :--)

Texas Diesel...

I would be happy to but... I do not have the capability. On my 99 with stock steel wheels, there is plenty of clerance.

Cannonball, I drilled into the center of the bottom cover and tapped for a very short zerk!!!

Hope that helps.

drilling and screwing in fittings!!!????

wait a minute before you go drilling your ball joints! the local alignment shop that has been in business for many years aligned my truck after having the ball joints relaced along with the track bar and right side bearings at 28,000 miles. while there i told him i was thinking about drilling the ball joints for fittings. he showed me the pics of ball joints in one of his alignment books and told me how they were made. the joints that come with fittings in them have passages in them to allow grease to get to the joint inself, the sealed ones DO NOT HAVE THESE PASSAGES. i can not say for sure that this is the way all of the joints are made but if it is then you are wasting your time drilling them because the grease can not get the parts it needs to. again this is from a respected business owner of many years. some more research should be done before attempting this. :(
