'02 4x4 auto. Around 90k the truck was in the dealer for under warranty brake work when they, on their own, replaced the ball joints, which was a surprise to me as the truck drove fine. At about 117K I notice the outer edges of both front tires wearing prematurely. By the time I could say " I better check this out... " they've gone beyond salvaging before 120K. Question is, I didn't hit anything to knock the alignment out and can't find any slop or unusual wear in the front end. From what I've been reading about the ball joints on these things, they wear out frequently, though from past experience (on cars anyway) I've never seen a bad ball Joint(s) cause tire wear like this without some other very noticeable malady (shimmy, pulling etc. ). Could the ball joints be the culprit ? From the way the tires are wearing, it appears as though the camber is way, way out.
