Why Did the Chicken Cross the Road?

Jeep Commander

Talked to my pop the other day. He is a Mets fan, since the "real" teams left NY years ago he had to take up a new alegiance. But he sometime talks about seeing a game when he was a kid in the '30s and after the war into the '50s. I guess they just don't make them like they use too.

Can anyone guess where this picture came from?

Any games/ballparks you remember going to when you were a kid?

I grew up about 40 as the crow flies from the City. I once saw a Yankee game in the original stadium when I was Very young. I do remember Shea.

Have you seen the mivie "61*"... ? It was about the 61 Yankees focusing on Maris/ Mantle- amust for any baseball fan. It was produced by Billy Chrystal- he's a HUGE Yankee fan! If you get it, make sure you watch all of the special features... it documents how they made Tiger Stadium look like Yankee Stadium.

EDIT:

MMmmm... Schaefer Beer...

Good guess ... close, but no cigar. Another old time place. Where the kids could see the game for free looking under the fence in right field.

Ebbets field?

I'm not old enough to remember that era of ballparks, but growing up I went to old Cleveland Municipal Stadium and I still remember it. It was amazing, but this past summer I was at Jacobs Field w/my 13yr old brother, and we were in the bathroom, and I was telling him how Munie had trough urinals, and when the bathrooms were full, guys would be peeing in the corners, and in trash cans etc. Or when you would get to your seat and be stuck behind one of the poles that supported the roof, and you had to lean to either side to be able to see the game and weirdly enough, I miss those days.

I guess I cant complain though, Jacobs Field is absolutely gorgeous and one of the best places I have ever seen a game at, but the new Cleveland Browns Stadium is too nice to be a stadium for the Dog Pound, everything is so nice and proper, it just all seems really weird and out of place.

You are correct sir ... Ebbets field ... the Holy Grail of ball parks.

I sometimes wonder if somehow it could be rebuild ... would the Dodgers come home to where they belong? Back to being the Bums.
