Banged up my rear bumper. Can I have the insurance company pay me tha value of it's replacement and have a different say reunell put on, and I pay the difference?????? BTW - does anybody make a rear bumper that has a hitch AND a rear Winch setup????

I think the "safe" answer to your question is "It depends... "

It depends on your insurance company policy whether or not they'll allow cost difference for upgrade parts. Some ins companies have gone to a HMO-style, preferred provider way of business :)mad: ) and you have to take their providers service or you --voluntarily-- refuse repair. Bottom line-check with the ins company and ask if you can take repair cost and apply to upgrade if you prove installation of upgrade after completion.

I hate this HMO way... .

Same thing happened to me. I got a price from an auto body shop, showed the appraiser my estimate when he came to check my rig out, and he approved the cost. Cut me a check on the spot (minus my deductible). I actually ordered a v-drop bumper that didn't cost as much as he wrote the check for and I kept the difference.

Of course, they got me when I renewed my insurance this year, my rates when up (year one of three that I'll be paying in surcharge for that little fender-bender). As per the below, depends on your insurance co.

(p. s. ) mine didn't ask for pictures or to see the fix after they paid me off.
