I've had my 5th wheel toy hauler on consignment at a local dealer since December. The local economy is oil driven so it's been slim pickins. The Dealer was RV Peddler with sales lots in Bakersfield, CA and Yuma, AZ. I got a call on Friday telling me to come get my rig before I have to deal with the bank. The dealer is bankrupt.
My rig: I had to jumper the rig to get the generator started so I could get it out of there. Batteries were deal. I found a couple lights that had been left on. Someone stole a couple of the easy to reach LED bulbs, The dead Batteries (seem to be ok and holding a charge but need to load test), A hatch support messed up, And some screens askew. Fortunately everything still works and nothing else damaged.
There was a clip on last nights news of some folks that didn't fare so well. Full timer bought a nice Artic Fox and traded in another rig. He still owed on the trade-in. Neither rig had been paid off and as of right now he's on the hook for the trade-in and possibly lose the new rig to the bank. I talked to several employees and got the same story... several rigs left that weren't paid for. Some consignment rigs sold and not paid for (either payoff to the bank for monies to the owner).
The owner was a woman who lost her husband a couple years back and turned the day to day over to the General Manager and Sales Manager. Not sure if they absconded with the money or just ran the business in the ground. Whatever they did they left a lot of good people in the lurch.
Boy am I glad they didn't sell my rig!
