Allpar news commented on the bakruptcy and said as of Monday, no vehicles will be built, no orders will be completed and vehicles completed but not shipped by Monday 5/4/09 will not be shipped. Allpar says this will primarily affect squad cars and chassis cabs, presumable because of the persistent demand for these vehicles. Looks like Chassis cabs could be in short supply soon, at least till production resumes. this will likely be 30 days minimum and probably longer.

What makes you think that Chassis Cabs will ever go back into production.

With the Gov't involved, these, I would think, would be the first vehicels to be dropped since they are hell bent on only producing little cars.

My other concern is that now that Chrysler filed for bankrupcy, Cummins contract with Chrysler would be "null and void" and be without a partner.

Possibly Ford might consider picking up Cummins 6. 7L engins for their trucks. If not, Cummins itself might go out of business.

I don't worry about any of your concerns.

The Dodge Ram Cummins products are one of the profitable units of Chrysler and I believe there is a solid and growing market for the cab and chassis trucks that is likely to improve compared to the competition when GM/Ferd are forced to introduce new emission compliant trucks next year.

Dodge is not the only end buyer for Cummins engines. Cummins builds ISC, ISX, ISL, and ISM engines for OTR trucks as well as stationary generator platform, marine engines, and more.

Umm, no. The government isnt going to be running the company. They can make whatever they want to, just better not ask for more fundage if they get in trouble again. Chassis cabs arent going anywhere, and the Cummins alliance certainly WILL NOT go anywhere. Mark my words, theyd be foolish to break up the partnership.

Ford only WISHES they could get the Cummins deal away from Dodge, but itll never happen
