Diesels and their future in the USA

1710 ci cummins in a Big Bud

wow....

Holy smokes! I wish I had some of the money going into that project. I am very glad that it is Banks doing it, and not Dr. Peeformance. Really wish it could be DD, but like I said, at least it's not Dr. Poo-poo.

Cool!#ad

I wonder if all this R&D will give Bank$ a little head start when the CR ISB comes out... the crazy part is they wanna try some road course time trials with it!

:D Way Cool!! :D

That thing is too cool. I'd just like to make it to some of the events to see it run in person. Roadracing a diesel truck, awesome('course I am slightly biased towards roadracing:D )

I thought you guys might like it... ... . Sure would be fun to drift it throught the corkscrew ant Laguna Seca... ... ... I have a in at Willow Springs... . My UPS driver is a partial owner... ... . Wanna Race?

Note the turbos used:

"Project Sidewinder will use Holset variable geometry turbocharger technology. A modified HY55 will be used for Bonneville speed record runs, while a smaller HY40 unit will be fitted for street use. "

The HY55 is for the 600 HP level.

Banks says,"

The compression ignition engine dyno being installed at Gale Banks Engineering for the Project Sidewinder engine development is a one-of-a-kind installation. Able to handle up to 1000 horsepower, 3000 lbs. -ft. of torque and engine speeds of 5000 RPM"

I guess Mitchell won't be able to dyno there, either!

Just glancing through, I saw several weak spots, but I bet we will never hear about it when they fail.

I like their goals, I did not know Gale was that interested in Diesels.

Lift pump problems?

Reckon the lift pump problems are resolved with this engine? Think Cummins will offer the 24 valve guys a comperable uprate?

Looks to be an informative report on a well thought out project.

Nice to see the intergration of concept, the design group, and manufacturing working with the power unit supplier. As I recall, Gale Banks was involved with at least the Cummins B5. 9 as far back as '89 or '90.

Good Luck Banks!

one problem... . at the speeds that they want to reach... they will need a cubic-butt-ton ( that is an actual scientific value) of down force on the truck to keep it stable.

And where do I get one ...

And the Ordering Code(s) at the dealership for this engine/transmission/drivetrain street version option will be what ... . ????

I didn't see them at Kelly Blue Book site.

You gotta like the part that says the Dakota will be towing the race/parts trailer to Bonneville before doing it's speed runs!
