Watched local vendor install a 4" on a brand new CTD yesterday. Great looking eqipment. Does it give any bang for the buck? How about the 5"? Thanks, Doc

The Banks system sounds good. Gave a instant 1 to 2 mpg increase and have been told the 5 inch is only really suited in high(500)h. p. applications and good actually decreade peformance in stock or mildly bomped trucks.

DPKetchum,

I have a few questions for you.

1. Did the Banks system make your truck much louder?

2. Is the muffler on your truck from Bank's?

3. Did you notice a SOP difference when it was installed?

4. Do you notice a droan from it?

Thank's

Rosco

Not a seat of the pants. May a little better response. Its advertised at a 18 h. p. gain?Forgot how much torque. Yes I used he BANKS entire system. Down pipe from turbo/muffler etc. Truck had a BAD drone to start with!Would drive you OUT of the truck. Its acceptable now. Was MUCH less with the Banks exhaust. Truck is louder but just enough to be nifty. Wife says when I shift towing and kinda on the power it sounds like a BIG rig in a nice way. SHE and I found it to be VERY acceptable. Its rated at close to 1000cfm and the factory system was around 325cfm if I'm not mistaken. Dosen't feel or sound like a potato stuck up anymore. Or like a stopped up vacumn cleaner.

I'll throw in my 2 cents, (or is it $750?). I really like the 4" banks on my '03. I think it does pull stronger now. We live at high altitude, so every increase helps. I installed it myself. It is a snap. Getting the old system off without cutting probably won't happen though.

The sound is great. Not too loud, but impressive under load. The muffler is from another manufacturer (dynomax, I think). The muffler is polished stainless and the 5" stainless tip looks neat.

i too have the banks monster on my 03 - great system!

5" would be a waist unless you go over 450 rwhp. NO ONe has a down pipe like the banks - a full 4". the banks down pipe replaces the factory cast iron elbow that chokes down the exhaust to the 3. 5" range.

the sound was a little quiet for me at the beginning but i enjoy the tone now. throaty but refined.

i shopped long and hard for an exhaust -- ended up getting the best deal and service at www.torqueandchrome.com -- very satisfied

additionally, with the install of the banks i was able to break into the 20s in mpg. with a best 22mpg freeway driving -- being able to get the best mileage in a diesel p/u was a big selling point in my purchasing of the 03 ctd

additionally2, the scotty III works well w/the freeflowing banks:D

Banks mufflers have always been dynaflow as far as I know. It was same company on my 93w250. Their system is also EPA certified 50 state legal. I dickered with them on the phone and they(Banks)did discount it some once I said Ah shucks and maybe NEXT month etc. About $75. 00 worth. I ordered directly from Banks.

If the banks kit replaces the elbow than a direct mount exhaust brake is not an option. Did they not allow for this in any way?

From my perspective $750 installed is a good deal. I paid that much just to get the kit dropped off at my door. Prices must be falling... or did I pay too much?

How do you guys feel like this system compares to the diesel performance products system? It's a bit more expensive.

Are any of you guys with the banks kits experiencing drones at any rpm?

As I mention earlier my truck had a terrible drone ay 1950 rpm plus. Was much less with the new exhast and at a bit higher rpm. I can live with it now.

Lightman,

DPPi's system is a quality product also - in my research (extensive), the banks came out on top: 3 things make it better: 1) downpipe eliminates cast iron (which "chokes" down to 3. 5") elbow and has the smoothest mandrel bends 2) new muffler is hi-flow AND quiet - i would describe it as a throaty refined sound 3) double walled polished stainless tip doesn't discolor as easily as single walled stainless tip 4) price/value. threw in #4 for extra credit

if i hadn't gone banks, i would have went DPPi/HOG exhaust - but, why?

My truck has zero drone now. I dont want to get a drone when buying an exhaust system. They can get annoying pretty quickly. Just curious if there's any special speed where the thing booms . .

BANKS 4" MONSTER EXHAUST

Earlier in this thread I PMed Rosco with a response to his questions. I thought I'd post my PM here to share my thoughts on this system with all.

Banks 4" Monster Exhaust

I'll provide my $. 02 if you don't mind me jumping in here. I just picked up and installed my Banks 4" Monster exhaust on 11/21/03. I had it ordered for a month but they put it on back order because I was told they were re-engineering the muffler. So you may get something different if you buy someones old stock.

To address your questions:

1. Did the Banks system make your truck much louder?

Only slightly - deep and mellow tone.

2. Is the muffler on your truck from Bank's?

Mine has Banks Monster stamped right in the shell.

3. Did you notice a SOP difference when it was installed?

Yes, it feels like it revs easier.

4. Do you notice a droan from it?

None what so ever across the entire RPM range.

This system is a work of art. Top quality fit an finish. No adjustments required to make it fit. After the old system was off, install time was one hour and fifteen minutes.

Empty, my EGT's seem to be about 75 to 100 F lower.

I would highly recommend this system.
