In the latest issue of Diesel Power Magazine, under thew new product section on page 36, is a new Boss Hoss intake manifold for Cummins just like the high dollar ZZ Fabrication one. Dose anyone no if it is for the common rail, 24 valve or 12 valve? Dose anyone know the price?
the intake itself is something like 800 dollars but the install would turn out to be rather pricey and you also loose your heating grid so anything below 0 and your truck prolly wouldnt start... also it is for the common rail... its the same intake they used on their cummins powered dakota
yeah it drives me nuts when I hear people call it that. I see it alot. dealers try to sell me a truck and say its got a cummings diesel and I know right then and there the dealer doesnt even know what he is selling cuz he hasnt even seen the valve covers.
Yes, you will gain performance by eliminating that restrictive heater grid.
The heater grid is mainly for emissions compliance, it will also give you a smooth idle quicker on a cold morning than you would get without it. But not having it will not prevent your truck starting on those cold mornings. You won't find a grid heater or glow plugs under the hood of a Class 8 Truck these days. If 17to 1 compression can't get it started, you will need a block heater, which you will find under the hood of most heavy duty Diesel trucks, including our CTD's. (It is located just rearward of the engine oil filter. You'll have to buy a Block Heater Cord. Dodge does not supply one unless you check the Snow Plow Option. )
All of our trucks sold locally are fully winterized with battery pads and block heaters, oil pan pads and trans pads. We still need those darn grid heaters to fire up though.
