I recently installed the new Banks 4” monster stainless exhaust on my long bed quad cab. This has the expanded portion inside muffler. The hardest part was removal of the stock system. I had to cut it in two places to remove it. The new system bolted up real nice and looks real good. I bought it to help cool the turbo, better performance, complement a fuel box and I figured it would last forever since it’s stainless, not to mention I like it to sound a little throaty. FYI, The stock down pipe is the only stainless part of the old system. The rest is aluminized steel.
The new system replaced the cast elbow coming off the turbo with 4-inch piping all the way to the tip. The Banks system produces a very loud growl in the cab coming from under the truck, either the pipe or the muffler when the RPM’s go above 2000 under a fair load. It’s not the tail pipe unfortunately. It’s so bad you cannot talk with some one you may not even be able to yell at them. My truck never had the drone problem before I put it on, but it does now. The general tone of the truck is deeper all the time now but it has the fluttery sound coming from the tip. I do like the sound of the pipe from idle to 1400 RPM’s, but unfortunately that’s not where I spend most of my time. It may possibly sound different (better) on a short box or regular cab. If I had known this is what it sounded like I probably would have stayed stock. Well I hope this helps someone looking at a new exhaust make a better-educated decision.
