I have coffee with a group of retired guys... I'm the only guy still working... . between the group there are at least 3 or 4 CTD pickups... we've tried several chips... mine was one of the light edge chips that quoted 2-5% and to be honest with driving a truck for 500K before I trade, 2% would be great to me... . it did provide 40 or so more additional HP... (05 3500 dually) we use card locks and control every gallon as well as mileage in my truck... . NO MILEAGE change... but I do have a nice change in light HP climbing hills with with my 14K lb trailer... . I don't think I'd go back... . BTW this truck now has over 110K miles...

2 of the other guys have tried other chips as well... they don't see a change in mileage but liked the increase in HP... they don't keep as close of records on fuel or mileage that I do... but their thought is that they've tried to drive easier with the additional power but really don't think they see additional mileage... . each of these trucks are under 60K miles...

I'm sure there will be some who differ... and maybe their use provides them with a venue for additional mileage... but I wouldn't count on it...

First off what model and year of truck? Second our you concern for the warranty on your truck?

Any truck built after (not sold) March 2009 have what has been called a Lock ECM from Dodge/Cummins. This is too prevent the use of performance programmers to change the parameters on fuel and timing that defeat the emissions. Dodge and Cummins are committed to ensure the truck will stay in compliance to the 2010 emission rules.

I do not believe any of the manufactures of programmers has been able to over come this feature at.

I am using a Smarty with deleted emission equipment and have achieved a solid 3 MPG improvement over stock. I have tracked every fill-up and every mile that I have driven this truck. I start in Nov. 07, through now. My spread sheets will do each year, totals the mileage along with every gallon used and averages for the year.

So I can go back and compare the same time frame at any given point.

Just my $0. 02

X2, Anyone selling on mileages gain(s) Get in Writing, that they will Pay the R/R when you don't get the claims they Make. Buy on the platform of Performance. Any Company that can assure you on mileage gains its only a Marketing tactic... I call it lying IMO.

Removing devices on Bluetec Engines have prov-en to increase Performance and mileage.

Added power is usually added fuel. If you use that power your milage will probably go down. Adding a little timing restores some power without adding fuel. This does add some milage. But in real world situations milage gains are minimal. If you want a little power and maybe milage try a smarty jr set on the economy (timing only) setting. 50hp injectors are supposed to add some milage. I have improved milage very little with my mods. The milage is very similar to the other trucks I have ran '93, 97, 01, and '03. The main difference is that I have more power compared to the older trucks. They were all modified as well. 50ft lbs of torque more than the '01 and 100 or so more than the 97 and 93.

Banks will be way more expensive than almost any other system you buy. They do however have many built in safety features most others don't have. Their customer service has a poor reptuation for customer service after the sale however. The "rule of thumb" seems to be that anything you add that does not increase your stock hp by over 100hp will probably not harm your stock transmission or turbo. This is not however a hard and fast rule. I am perfectly satisfied with my Edge EZ. I knew its limitations when I bought it however it fit the type of driving and towing I do. It did not increase my mileage however I do have an increase in power when I need it. I would recommend either a Smarty Jr or an Edge.

On 2003-7 Turbo Diesels, I have seen mileage increases with the TST PowerMax-CR and with the Smarty. Both have options to increase timing.

Bully Dog

I installed my Bully Dog (at 50k) and selected the "TOW" download I did pickup a noticeable hp increase and mileage increase 2-3 mpg(every now and then). I currently run the tuner in the “Performance” setting and use the Outlook monitor to adjust the tuner. I can’t say what the other tuners offer or how they perform only that the Bully Dog was price right for my wallet at the time.

Here's another angle, I have work and been hire for Development to Both Cat and Cummins. . they regularly BUY competitors Products Break them down test in every area... if they find something of value they copy it. In some case(s) they BUY the rights or the Company. If these programs could produce the advertise result (In mileage) they would be either copied or swallow up like wales eat plankton,Adding HP is no secret, that why most engine manufactures offer mileage warranties according to HP. More HP lowers the warranty mileage and time frame.

OK I fix it ... ... ... but it was funny

This is what I drive,2006 dodge mega cab, 2500, 4x4,5. 9L CTD,automatic,Amsoil oil and bypass filter.

Sorry about not posting this info.

Thankyou Chris

when I ran the smarty on my old truck I did not see any measurable mpg gain. I did however gain a lot of power with NO mpg loss unless I was romping on it all the time. My feeling is that mpg is more of an effect on how you drive?

I liked the Edge Juice w/Attitude as it adds power and provides a monitoring set up. For my budget, this was the best choice for me. No noticeable mileage gains.

Just curious, what's blank-ton?
