In the Feb 2008 "DIESEL POWER" there is an article on the Banks Duramax powered S10 truck running mid to low eights. In the article they say and I quote, " For fueling, a single stock CP3 injection pump is used" and it goes on to say they made 775hp on diesel alone.

 OK, I'm going to sit back and let the knowledgeable folks here explain to me why I need a modified "stage whatever" CP3, dual lines or dual CP3s. I realize the lift pump pushing through a filter is a restriction and needs to be upgraded but what have the Banks people discovered that lets a stock CP3 push nearly 800hp???

Are we just blowing the fuel out the tailpipe in thick black smoke? I know the heavy fueling helps the turbos spool but have we missed something??

I would just like to say that although I can't answer your question, I do think it is unfair to call the above mentioned truck the fastest diesel pickup truck. By definition a truck should be able to haul something in the bed and tow something behind it. This Banks S-10 can do neither. I am not saying that this is what WCPoe is calling it, I am saying this is what the magazine says, just so noone takes my comment as an attack on this original poster.

Amen to that. A back halved, tube frame purpose built racer ain't a truck. To be the fastest diesel pickup truck would require first being a pickup.

It's my understanding that the nitrous is big part of the minimal smoke. Is there that much difference in the Duramax/Cummins CP3?

No, not much difference at all. I think the DMax pump flows a little more, and the electronics/software on the pump is different, but if I'm not mistaken some duel fueler kits sold for our trucks use DMax pumps.

I guess I give Banks credit for making the S10 go so fast on diesel, but they have millions tied up in all the research, engineering, and manufacturing of one-off parts. With enough money someone could make a baby carriage run in the 8's. So I guess I don't consider what they have there something that's even in our category. Like said above, it's not a truck anymore.

NEVER TREAT MAGAZINE INFO AS FACT!

They are worse then Banks them selves when getting the story right.

I highly doubt the CP3 is in stock forum. There is no way 750hp worth of fuel is available in stock form. The volume just isn't there. Now Modded to spin faster, with bigger passages and all that involved to make a stage 4 of some sort equivalent. Then there is fuel is available for that HP level.

The CP3 is a rather simple and dumb pump. The only electronics on the pump is the flow control actuator (FCA). It's just a simple amperage base metering valve. The "when" and other half of "how much" fuel is injected is controlled at the injector. the VP44 does this internally.

They did not make 755 on diesel alone. That is an outright lie. They use 2 bottles per pass. Banks Power - Banks Debuts Sidewinder® D-Max Type-D Drag Race Pickup at SEMA (4th picture down). Note the caption. "nitrous interer cooling system". ha ha ha ha. . No. more like the additional 2 turbos in a bottle worth of oxygen. They use alot of spray to get the job done. They (banks company personal) have admitted to this.

To run as fast as thaey are in a tube chassis as light as it is, 800-ish HP is about right.

No, it's not a truck. The real trucks are in the 9's right now that can tow something.

Now, however you slice it. Yes they went (that) fast.

NO IT IS NOT A RECORD!! (yet).

Banks DID beat up the Ford land speed racer team claiming "the fastest land speed truck". Technically the Ford (with a 6. 0 no less!) did achieve a faster over all speed then the LSR dodge dakota. However, different scacioning bodies, ford has a US one, banks has a world wide one or something to that effect. Banks got all *****y and girly and made a big stink. The Ford team took down the info off of their web page to comply cuz, as far as the rules go they were in the wrong. HOWEVER the ford ranger is faster then the dodge dakota if they were to be in a side by side race. First one to the top speed would be the ranger (if you take all the rules out an do a 4mile long drag race).

Now, You look at bankspower.com and see "record". And then ask your self "How to you achieve a world records at at TEST AND TUNE?

If you want more info about these "records" CompD's site has a few threads with Banks employee's making Banks look even more childish and un-professional with all the grass roots folks calling out just about every bogus claim banks has to offer

2008 looks to be interesting. There will be more then 10 dragsters (all 3 makes of motors!). And over 10 REAL trucks competing at events this year. Well, make that one less if we never see the Type-D show up. There will be more then one dragster getting very close to the 6's this year.

If they accomplish nothing else, at least the banks team gets media on the diesel world so the sponsers will notice that is the only way for it to get the notariaty it deserves and banks (give credit where its due guys) knows that belching black smoke isnt good for public relations and furthering of the sport as such.

It's more negative... . to put it short

"banks is the best, all the other guys are doing it wrong"...

Not all tunes smoke. and believe me, i've seen some smokey "banks" trucks.

Do you know who Cato calin (SP?) is? he's a nobody that is a celebrity because of his name mentioned in the OJ trial. I run zero banks stuff, and who in the industry thinks their own products aren't the best? If an executive of pepsi sees a blurb on this truck and looks into sponsoring a diesel team because of it ,why is that negative? As far as smoke , Only THIS one is claimed "smokeless" far as I know.

Ditto on Creed's running gear- no Banks- but I agree that those folks need some credit for their participation in the diesel field. They have gotten folks who are new to diesels aware that there are "options" available to improve their trucks, across the platforms. Banks gets their money up front... young guns feel good about their trucks... REAL good... then you come along... and then OUR vendors make THEIR bucks fixing up the young guns trucks. Take nothing away from Gale Banks. He's a good guy and knows marketing!

Greg

Naw, it is true, and the truck has since run 7's.

It will be in Bakersfield in a few weeks at the NADM/Diesel World magazine Crude Drags.
