I have a 1996 Dodge cummins/5 speed and am considering the Banks Stinger or the Power Pack System and would like to get some feedback from Users both pro's and con's.
Is it really worth the money? Can we get a Group Price? I was quoted $1,095 plus shipping on the Stinger and $2,095 plus shipping for the Power Pack System. Is this a good price??? Thanks for any help you all can give.

A lot of members find that the combination of a TST plate and injectors, and exhaust come in with a better value and best yet you can do the upgrades as your budjet allows. I have not heard any really bad or really good things about the banks kits but I have lots of good things about TST products, and BD's. I have a #6 plate from BD and my power is awsome in my 95. Maybe some other members have had experiences with Banks they can share.

I truly believe, after reading about the $ per gain from the Banks kits, the 2 best words to describe the $ is "rape job".

Pls go ck out TST Products & spend the $300 for a fuel plate. The 96 & 97 5 speed pumps are capable of lots of torque. $300 gets you a whole list of fuel plates, starting with 605 ft-lbs of torque.

Here is what Mark sent me on 11/99:

The following TST Power Kits are offered for the '96-'98 12 Valve 215 hp Ram
Diesel 5 speeds:

Kit # Rated Power Peak Torque Price
Stock 215 hp @ 2600 rpm 440 lb-ft @ 1600
PK12 230 hp @ 2600 rpm 605 lb-ft @ 1600 $299
PK11 280 hp @ 2600 rpm 685 lb-ft @ 1600 $299 **
PK11* 300 hp @ 2600 rpm 700 lb-ft @ 1600 $475 **
PK10 330 hp @ 2600 rpm 750 lb-ft @ 1600 $299 **
PK10* 350 hp @ 2600 rpm 770 lb-ft @ 1600 $475 **

** Not certified for on highway use in North America

*Includes 16 cm2 turbine housing minus boost control

Note: The PK10 can only be used at full power about 30 seconds in each 5
minutes and is not for towing of any kind as turbine inlet temperature will
be too hot.

The 16 cm2 turbine housing ($175) is larger than the stock housing thus
exhaust manifold pressure and exhaust temperatures are reduced. An exhaust
pyro ($165) is highly recommended for both PK11 & PK10.

PK12 and PK11 can be used for towing in nearly all cases, and the torque
from these kits can usually be handled by the stock clutch. Torque of 700+
lb-ft will most likely require a better clutch, TST offer an 800 lb-ft
clutch for $595.

People here always bring up the line about Banks doesn't give you the bang for the buck which is totally unfounded. If you price out the parts you get with a Banks kit with anyone else's equal parts you'll see that Banks is cheaper. Plus they have a warranty and customer service that can't be beat. I have Banks Stinger Pluses on both my trucks and wouldn't even consider any other power mod on a new truck. I have all the power I'll ever need and it was done with an engineered as one system modification, I didn't have to fool around going to several sources hoping to get what works. I was told by a Banks salesman that the Power-Pak was a waste of money so have just gone with the Stinger Plus and am very happy. My trucks are workers, not racers or commuter rigs and they do their jobs very well.

What's DD?
Do they have a web address?
I must tell you guys I have
only owned a Dodge Cummins for
about a month now so I still
pretty Green, if ya know what I mean.

DD is Diesel Dynamics. Their injectors are proving to be as good as they say - I'd like to have them! The afc spring is included in their kits. I started with a banks kit and the only thing left is the 14 housing - I like it. I had 2 of their plates - both were way screwy fuel profiles. I never tried sliding my stock plate. Some are happy with that! I have a TST #11 plate now and love it. The afc spring is a must - I think, no matter what else you do. My stock clutch still holds fine, my egt is low, and it all usable power for towing. Take your time and figure out what you want it to do first and go from there. Craig

The best way to go is to have somone tune the pump not just a camm plate. You should go to Auto Wurks Diesel end get the job done right the plate is good for a little boost but if you want it done right you should get the pump tuned get a new set of injectors and a 4 inch exhaust and you will see a drastic inprovement in horse power and torque. It is the real way to make power not the easy not so good way. Auto Wurks # is 973 226 7800 just give them a call you are not that far away these guys are the best in the country.

I presently have the power pack system on my 95. It brought it from 175 to 292hp. The kit has fairly easy instructions to follow. All the parts fit. Customer service helped on any questions I had. My problem is I become a BOMBaholic and 292 was not enough. Now I am at 400 and that is not enough. Almost every piece I bought from Banks has been removed and replaced. I guess it just depends on how far you want to go. If you want 350will put out+ or more, banks kit is not what you want. If you have a 215 hp engine it would put out 335hp approx. Steve Fyfe

DD claims that egt will suffer more from getting your hp from pump mods than with injectors. If that's true, injectors would be good as part of it(you have to anyway at higher hp levels). Their plates compliment their injectors. They said their plate gives more fuel at lower rpm and less fuel at high rpm than my TST #11. From past experience, if you don't have abundant fueling at high rpm, it won't have the pep for short bursts(going thru the gears and eating up Hardley Ablesons). A person might have to watch their foot if they mix DD injectors with another plate. No biggy, I have to watch it a little at full load anyway. I purposely set the plate that way! Altitude matters too! The combo that Dee runs and works for him would be too much smoke to suit me where I go. Craig
