Last few mornings sounded like batterys going dead as it fired over. This morning only got a couple revolutions, before it stopped cranking. Cleaned all of my corroded battery and starter terminals and still only gives a couple revolutions. Thinking that the interstate batterys are dead, I thought I would get it going with another vehicle with a jump. Still same result, faster rpm but still stops cranking after a few tries. Any extra insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Well if those batteries are toasted they will be no help especially with a "jump" . Can you throw them on a charger overnight? I would have them load tested after a good charge. How old are they?

I guess now they are 5 years old, replaced starter contacts about that long ago also. I'm giving them a charge overnight, and will see in the morning. Thanks!

A battery with a collapsed cell will negate any attempts to jump from another vehicle.

Disconnect both your ground cables from your truck batteries and try jumping it again. If it still cranks slow, the starter is fried. If it cranks OK, you have a dead battery or two. Quite possible both the batteries and the starter are done.

After the charge overnight cranked over like batterys were new. No fire though... ... . re-connected 3 small accessory wires to positive post that looked to be add-ons and WOW!

She came alive again!... Thanks for the help guys, I will have to trace those smaller positive leads to find out what exactly is going on, those positive leads don't look to be factory wiring. More importantly though, problem is solved. Thanks again guys for your generosity of time and information shared... this forum truely is and invaluable resource. Sincerely Gabe

One of those wires " that looked added on" is the wire that powers the fuel shut off solenoid relay.

On a no "fire up" condition always check to see if the rod on the fuel shut off solenoid has moved upwards if not you can always push it up with your hand.

Fuel shut off solenoid has two coils, first is the hold up coil powered by the ignition switch the second is the pull up coil activated the the "Start" position.

Actually when you trun the igniton to "start" that sends power to the starter relay(activates it) which sends power to the starter solenioid and the fuel shut off solenoid relay (activates it) which then activates the pull up coil.

The wires you think are add ons are probably the fusable links, and are factory wires. They all change colors where they connect to the main wires.

1997 12 valve. I was the second owner, so I thought that those wires were from unknown past accessories that were removed.
