I'm getting ready to check, and fix the KDP in my "97" Ram 3500, BD Automatic.
I'm going to need a Baring tool to keep the crankshaft from turning when I remove the vibration dampner. My question is; where do you obtain an "Engine Baring Tool".
I purchased mine from Cummins NW in Portland, Oregon. It was used one time for the KDP fix. Fact is I don't intend to use it anymore and would be willing to sell it too you if your interested. I don't recall what I paid for it, but can call Cummins NW and get a quote and discount it from there. PM me if interested and we can go from there.
yes, possibly, but what risk do the screws have other than oil leaks? I have no leaks, so I dont see a reason to tear that far down... mebe i`m underestimating it, i dunno. Havent heard of a case screw falling out.
There have been a few bolts drop out, so not all trucks, have been lock tited. and 18' lbs of tourqe is not much tightness. besides your 95% there any way. there have been some guys that have done thiers (tabed) with out spending the big bucks. I did, and would again Tab it. I just bought the seal and reused the gasket. yes I control a jig. And so far the users have been more that satisfied. Its just a risque we all take if we jig it. The ones i've checked all had at least 18 lbs on them.
If a gear case screw falls out and it gets in the works it causes expensive damage. Like breaking the end off the cam shaft. Or breaking the front main bearing cap.
I found my reciept the other day for mine and I paid $20. 00 from Cummins. I don't think I would part with mine, use it all the time. I have not been able to get the idea of turning the engine backwards yet to do the valves.
