Baring tool

Hey guy's, I was going to adjust the valves on my 93 today for the first time and am having trouble with the Baring tool not wanting to engage with the teeth on the flywheel. I could feel the tool and the teeth lining up but it won't go in with out binding. I got the Baring tool from Geno's part # 3824591. Is this the right tool for the 93 or am I not doing something right?

I am not an expert on this topic, but when I took my 97 to a very experienced mechanic for valve adjust and FP timing, he rotated the crank by using a pipe wrench on the edge of the crank damper. I asked him why he didn't use a barring tool, said it would take too much time to move around to the flywheel when he really wanted to look at timing marks that he made on the damper. So a barring tool isn't needed, and maybe not even recommended.

Use a socket and breaker bar on the alternator nut. Works like a charm.

Thanks for the reply's. I tried the alternator nut method and that works just fine. Is any body in the market for a Baring tool in perfect condition?

I too have found that the tools listed in a shop manual are not required. Sometimes, if you must have a tool of sorts, you can make one yourself that functions better than the (very) costly unit mentioned in the manual.
