"Bark" at startup cracks stock airbox
About a week ago I started up my truck and was greeted immediately with a big "whump". Recent threads here on TDR led me to believe it might have been the air conditioning compressor.
Today (while installing a Fleetguard BHAF) I noticed that two adjacent corners of my stock airbox were cracked/broken from overpressurization. Since the turbo wasn't even spooled up yet (I was parked in my driveway for gosh sakes) it couldn't have been turbo bark. But it sounded just like it.
The only thing think I can think of is a sticking intake valve allowed pressure from an engine cylinder to be forced back through the turbo and the airbox.
Thoughts anyone?
