Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Basic 101 Q - how do you pull the pump cover?

So I'm going to check out my APPS voltage and was trying (gently) to remove the pump cover. Not wanting to destroy it I stopped short of forcing it off. So how do you get it off?



Looks like it has two push slots (that release) as well as two push-in holders... ... ... . so any help is appreciated.

I used a small screw driver & pryed them straight up just high enough to grab it with a pair of dykes under the head, but you gotta be careful because they break easy.
